Thanksgiving

Article written by: Sister Brenda Wider, Grandmothers of Hope Society, Inc.

Thanksgiving is a time of gathering together with family and friends to give thanks for all our blessings. I grew up in a very large family and every Sunday was like thanksgiving in our house.  My sisters and brothers and their families came after church on Sundays to eat dinner and fellowship until late in the evenings.

Jesus said, “But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added unto you.”

Article written by: Sister Myrtice Robinson, Grandmothers of Hope Society, Inc

Jesus said, “But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added unto you.” Matthew 6:33

What things? Matthew 6:25-34 (NIV) states:
“Therefore, I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life? “

JESUS SAID: “FEAR NOT” (ISAIAH 41:10)

Article written by: Edna Ellison, Grandmothers of Hope Society, Inc

We may never equate fear with being a grandmother but in certain situations it happens. We may encounter a home where the father or perhaps the mother is not a Christian. They may not even believe that there is a God. We the grandmothers of hope must first of all approach the throne of grace through prayer. We must seek God’s direction on how to handle each specific challenge. In biblical history we may look at examples such as Esther. She had to go before the king in order to save her people, the Jews. The law was that absolutely no one could approach the king unless he sent for them. Her cousin Mordecai told her that perhaps God put her in the palace for such a time as this. Even though she could have been killed, she was not to be afraid because God orchestrated the situation (Esther chapter 1 thru 10) Then there was Mary the mother of Jesus.

JESUS SAID, “ASK and it will be given. SEEK and you will find; KNOCK and the door will be opened.”

Article written by: Sister Maxine Shackelford, Grandmothers of Hope Society, Inc

JESUS SAID, “Ask and it will be given, seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened!” Matthew 7:7

Dearly Beloved, these promises are like sweet music to the ear!

To activate them you must have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. And, to have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ you must be a born-again believer.

So, the question becomes: how do I become a born-again believer? I’m glad you asked. John 3:16 says, “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”

JESUS SAID, “Have Humility”

Article written by: Rose Bryant (GMOH)

Many people have the wrong idea about God, the Bible and humility, or being humble. They think being humble means groveling in front of others or thinking they are no good and others are better.

That’s not what the Bible says. God says when you are humble, you are free from pride and arrogance. You know that in your flesh you are inadequate, yet you also know who you are in Christ. You know that being humble God will exalt you in due time.

JESUS SAID, “Forgive and you will be forgiven”.

Article written by: Sister Joann Greene (GMOH)

JESUS SAID, “Forgive and you will be forgiven”.

During a prayer meeting one evening I heard a short story of a young Filipino girl from a large family that was extremely poor. Sex Traffickers came through their village and offered her parents money for the 17-year-old girl which was the oldest. The parents accepted the money to be able to take care of the rest of the family. The girl was terribly angry and disappointed, but she was aware of the needs of her family.

JESUS SAID, “Follow Me!”

Article written by: Patricia Smith

JESUS SAID, “Follow Me!”

I remember in my early days of being a young driver of my first car, and eons before cell phones, GPS, and even before Map Quest; preparing to take a road trip took a lot of planning and confidence. My dad and others who were familiar with the route I would need to take would try to tell me the way without using street names or accurate estimates of mileage. Because I didn’t trust my sense of direction on winding and hilly roads, nor did I trust myself to remember to turn right or left after the third red barn or the cornfield with the scarecrow that wore a plaid shirt, I’d end up purchasing a road map at a gas station or asking for directions along the way.

It Is Finished

Article written by: Brenda Wider

It Is Finished

The Bible says in John 19:30, “When he had received the drink, Jesus said, “It is finished.” With that, he bowed his head and gave up his spirit.”

The final words of the Son of God as He perished on the Cross would literally change the course of history for all of time.  As Jesus hung on the cross, as His body withered at the crucifixion He had just endured, He mustered the strength to make the statement, “it is finished.”
