Faithful Servant

Written by: Sister Edna Ellison

The question is, what does it mean to be a “Faithful” servant? One definition is to remain firm in one’s belief and support. There are so many instances in the Bible which describes a faithful servant. There are also instances where God shows his faithfulness toward us. Matthew 25:27-29 is where Jesus is using the metaphor of financial success to communicate what it means to be His servant. His parable imagines the gifts He will give to His servants on earth—natural ability, skills, resources, money, assets—as things to invest. This is very much why the word “talent” is used in modern English as a reference to God-given abilities. He wants us to use those blessings to deepen our faith in Himself, to increase His glory on the earth, and hopefully to grow His church.

Practicing Goodness

Written by: Sister Rose Bryant

Why do we practice goodness? We practice goodness because it is the will of God and one of the portions of The Fruit of the spirit. In Galatians 5:22-23 it says, “But the Fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, GOODNESS, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.”

Goodness is a positive, loving and caring attitude revealed through our kindness, our good deeds and our character. Know that, when we act out of true goodness of the heart and reflect the fruit of the Spirit, we are obedient to God’s commandments and when we practice it or apply it to our lives it glorifies the Father, and it blesses others.

PATIENCE IN PRACTICE

Psalm 86:15 describes God’s relationship with His people this way: “But you, O Lord, are a God merciful and gracious, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness.”  So, while sitting in my room thinking about the slice of the spiritual fruit of patience, I was reminded of a story about a young lady – someone very near and dear to my heart. She was involved in a romantic relationship that any young girl would have enjoyed being part of. Her young fiancé was a military man and always looked so handsome when dressed in uniform. She knew he was the right man for her even though they were not evenly yoked. Her parents had given them their approval to get married, and they were married six months later.
