The Galatians, having launched their Christian experience by faith, seem content to leave their voyage of faith and chart a new course based on works. When Paul returned from Jerusalem, he was somewhat disturbed to find the Gentiles were not following the gospel of faith. In that gospel of faith was the fruit of the Spirit. Gentleness is a slice of that fruit. (Galatians 5:22-23 KJV).
We, the Grandmothers of Hope, have set our hearts to live in the Spirit. Galatians 5:25-26 (KJV) states that “If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit. Let us not be desirous of vain glory, provoking one another, envying one another.
In my life there have been hardships that came about and there was a need for someone to show gentleness. It came to pass, there was meekness/gentleness shown. 1 Timothy 6:11 (KJV) states “But thou, O man of God, flee these things, and follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, meekness.”
When you come upon someone hurting regardless of whether it be of the heart (emotionally) or actual pain in the body, we must show meekness when responding verbally also when someone may be going through divorce or one who needs assistance moving from a chair to a bed. Both need gentleness when responding to those needs. We must show that spirit of gentleness from the fruit of the Spirit. When responding to someone whose heart is hurting because of a separation from a loved one, we must remember not to stir up anger regarding the two. Remember a soft answer turneth away wrath, but grievous words stir up anger. (Proverbs 15:1 KJV). In addition, when helping someone who has disabilities, we must be gentle with our assistance. Remember we are the children of God and what we do, and how we do things is a reflection of Him. There may be times during your life that you will have the opportunity to come along side someone and give them a gentle push to get them started in lifelong lessons to see and understand Jesus Christ. Be prepared and ready to show meekness in your delivery of God’s word. Spend some time in the word of God to show yourself approved and ready to encourage others with God’s Holy Word. Ask God to teach you how to show the fruit of the Spirit in your daily living.
I am so encouraged to learn and to see more of God’s goodness in our world. It is so needed in this world today. I thank God and praise Him too for all He has done and will do in the world. 2 Chronicles 7:14 (KJV) states, “If my people, which are called by my name shall humble themselves and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and will heal their land.” That’s a sign of gentleness for our world. The Scriptures below are also guiding us to practice gentleness.
